The Traffic Act allows to ride a cycle on roads and streets from the age of 10 onwards if the cyclist knows the traffic rules and has a driving licence. The cyclist driving licence is required for all cyclists who ride on roads and are 10–15 years old. A cycle is a first vehicle that a child uses in traffic – it is very important to prepare the future driver thoroughly.

Giving a cyclist driving licence to a child without a thorough training can have consequences which no-one wants! According to our curriculum, the future cyclists will complete 14 theory lessons and 7 driving lessons.

  • When you register to the training, you accept all the terms above and are ready to pass all the required training stages.

The cyclist will complete the following exercises in training:

Driving on a training field:

  • Keeping the balance. Elementary riding skills
  • Looking behind. Looking over the shoulder in such a way that the cycle will not change directions.
  • Driving on a sloping road. Starting a ride on a sloping road
  • Starting a ride on a sloping road, braking. Starting a ride smoothly and braking.
  • Extreme braking. Stopping at a given place at a high speed, without losing control over the cycle.
  • Driving slowly. Driving at a speed of a pedestrian – a teacher will walk beside the cycle.
  • Slalom driving, cones at 3 m intervals.
  • Driving figure eights.
  • Driving in a circle. Desirably a drawn circle with a radius of 3-4 m.
  • Gates and maneuvering exercises. Driving between obstacles.
  • Driving on a limited area. Narrow corridor.
  • Driving over obstacles. A parallel obstacle in front. Board.
  • Indicating directions with hands.

Driving on an imitated and street traffic:

  • Positioning on the road. Ability to drive in the limits of the lane, positioning on the lane before turning.
  • Suitable techniques for making a turn.
  • Meeting a vehicle (cycle) that moves towards you.
  • Choosing the right speed according to the traffic situation.
  • Changing lanes.
  • Driving in front of another vehicle, knowing how to look behind, knowing how to let the other vehicle pass.
  • Driving on intersections, turning on intersections.
  • Driving across a pedestrian crossing, obligation to give way to a pedestrian, actions when crossing a pedestrian crossing as a cyclist.
  • Driving on a cyclist and pedestrian roads.
  • U-turn.
  • Passing an obstacle, an obstacle on the road, another vehicle.
  • Crossing a railway tracks.
  • Signals of a traffic regulator, including traffic lights.

NB! We also offer shorter preparation courses to cyclists, call/write, we will discuss your wishes and needs and review the options pursuant to laws and create a suitable course for you.

We collaborate with many schools in Estonia, where we offer trainings and preparation courses to the future cyclists.

Finishing the training

If you have completed all training stages successfully, have passed the theory and driving exam, then we will issue a cyclist driving licence to you (with parental consent).
